HALLOWEEN - OCTOBER 31st |
|
Spooky ghosts, cackling witches, and enough candy to keep dentists busy through the new year - Halloween is the kid-friendly holiday that encourages playing dress-up, having fun, and shouting "BOO!" Why not add a thoughtful gift into that surprise?
All Hallows Eve may not be a traditional gift giving holiday, but that can be the best chance to present a close friend or special family member with a beautiful Giclée; Canvas Print. Whether you opt for something seasonal, or offer a photo or art print you know they've been dying to display, you're bound to get a healthy dose of good cheer to go along with your mini chocolate bars and candy apples!
At KeenART Media, we take the utmost care with your order. You select the image, edge color, canvas depth, and size, and we do the rest! We'll even ship the print directly to the lucky recipient.
PICKING THE PERFECT GIFT
It's always more fun to receive a creative, personal gift than a generic one. And it's usually just as much fun for the gift giver to pick out a really special, meaningful present.
The image, the size, the display - these are all important things to consider when choosing wall decor as a gift. It should be something the recipients will love, not just something you'd like yourself! Here are some tips for selecting the best piece to really make the most of Halloween:
- Snoop around their house. Not into drawers and closets, but try to get a feel for the decorating scheme. If they like simple wallpapers and light shades, go for a picture in this same vein. Are they more into bold colors and styles? Choose a photo that reflects this wilder version of their personalities.
- Bring up home decor-related conversations, and then listen. Do they mention an area they wish was better decorated? How about a color scheme in the planning stages? If a blank wall is a subject of despair, sneak a measurement so you can order an artwork of the perfect size.
- Concerned about picking the right thing? Consider ordering a small image. No less thoughtful or eye-catching, a little 10x10" or 15x20" print fits perfectly in the front hall, office, or stairwell, and won't take over. Or, if you really have no idea, you can always just ask! It might not be a complete surprise, but it won't be any less appreciated.
- Still stuck? Why not opt for something that suits the holiday? A seasonal canvas print can be a great option for hanging in that space usually reserved for the Christmas wreath and the summery wall decor. Go with an autumnal image in rich orange and yellow - pumpkins, fallen leaves - or something special to the day - an eerie graveyard scene, or a cute animal in a silly costume.
- Once you've settled on the image, consider the presentation. Do they already have a number of canvases hanging in the home? If so, you might choose to stick with that display, or pick out one of our beautiful canvas floater frame to accentuate the picture.
- If you don't have access to the perfect image, or for any other reason you're unable to select a canvas print or frame, why not let them pick their own, on you! We offer Gift Certificates in custom denominations. We can send the recipient the code via email, or print a physical certificate and mail it straight to them!
Whatever your budget or relationship with the recipient, put some serious thought into the gift. Your efforts will be recognized and appreciated.

HISTORY OF TRICK-OR-TREAT
Anyone who lives in an area inhabited by children will have heard the telling "Trick or Treat" hollered at their door on October 31st. But why can't they just knock and ask politely, instead?
The "trick" in "trick or treat" refers to the traditional threat that some sort of mischief will be carried out on your property if you don't offer a treat (or if you don't offer a satisfactory treat!). This is thought to have come from Medieval "mumming," the practice of donning masks and wandering the streets, sneaking into houses to dance around in silence ("mum's the word").
As early as 1895, "guising" was practiced on Halloween evening by children in Scotland and Irelend. Much like today, the kids would wear disguises and go door to door, receiving treats and coins from those who answered their knock. In North America, children began mimicking this routine around the turn of the century. 1911 is the earlier recorded "trick or treating" on this side of the ocean.
In some communities where the residences are quite spaced out, a "trunk or treating" event has been established. Those who would normally answer their door instead decorate their vehicles in a specific theme and meet in a parking lot to pass out candy to the children making the rounds. Trunk or treating has been growing in popularity recently, since it is seen as safer than going door to door.
